Cycle Log: Competition Phase 2014 – Week 6

Week 6 is the third week of the second mesocycle of my Competition Phase I for the 2014 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles), which means it is a recovery week. Here are my workouts for the week of May 26 through June 1, 2014 (click here to download my Competition Phase training plan):

  • Monday, May 26 – Field Test (2.5 hours)
  • Tuesday, May 27 – Active Recovery (0.75 hours)
  • Thursday, May 29 – Active Recovery (0.75 hours)
  • Saturday, May 31 – Steady Spinning (2.0 hours)

This was a recovery week but I got in two really good rides. On Monday, I did the first field test I have done in many months. It consisted of a 30-minute, all-out effort up 9-mile hill. I rode reasonably well with an average power of 220 watts and an average HR of 155 bpm. Not my highest numbers but not too bad either. I recovered for the next 4 days and then had a very good Steady Spinning effort on Saturday that included a few hard hill surges. I’m looking forward to this week. I have a hard Hill Climb ride on Tuesday at Bartlett Lake and then I have my first race of the season at the Flagstaff Snowbowl Hill Climb. As always, I’ll let you know how it goes.
