Cycle Log: Competition Phase 2014 – Week 2

Week 2 is the second week of the first mesocycle of my Competition Phase I for the 2014 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles). Here are my workouts for the week of April 28 through May 4, 2014 (click here to download my Competition Phase training plan):

  • Monday, April 28 – Hill Climb (2.5 hours)
  • Tuesday, April 29 – Active Recovery (1 hour)
  • Thursday, May 1 – Steady Spinning: Indoors (1.25 hours)
  • Saturday, May 3 – Tempo Ride (1.75 hours)

I had a very solid week that started with a great Hill Climb ride up South Mountain. I did two ascents and climbed a total of 3,225 feet. I did Thursday’s Steady Spinning ride on my indoor trainer with legs that were still a bit tired from Monday’s hill climb. I was fully recovered by Saturday’s Tempo ride, which was very strong. In fact, I could have ridden harder and longer but I have a big week coming up. It starts with another South Mountain hill climb on Monday and ends with my first race of the season, the South Mountain Time Trial. As always, I’ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week!
