Cycle Log: Intensity Phase 2014 – Week 8

Week 8 is the second week of the third mesocycle of my Intensity Phase for the 2014 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles). Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of February 24 to March 2, 2014 (click here to download my Intensity Phase training plan).

I had a very good week but the most significant part was my return to South Mountain in Phoenix to begin preparation for my big climbing events that take place over the next two months. Monday’s Hill Climb ride was a great workout. I did two ascents of South Mountain and climbed a total of 2,986 feet. I had almost forgotten how beautiful it is there! I also had a great Time Trial Intervals workout on Thursday. I did 3 x 10:00 Zone 4 efforts (i.e., lactate threshold) on a stationary bike. I didn’t ride on Saturday because I volunteered for Day 1 of the Arizona Senior Olympics. White Mountain Road Club supported the cycling events. I helped out with the 5K and 10K time trials. I want to give a big shout out to all the senior Olympians. You did a fantastic job! Have a great week everyone.
