Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #90: Hold the Bread

Over the past year, I have provided several tips designed to help you eat out more healthfully. Here is another one: when dining out, ask your server to hold the bread. Depending on the restaurant, a bread course can add hundreds of calories of high glycemic carbohydrates to your meal. For example, one of my favorite bread starters is Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuit. One biscuit has 150 calories including 8 grams of fat (2.5 saturated) and 16 grams of carbohydrate. That’s not bad but they are so tasty it’s hard to eat just one! Therefore, I usually skip the bread course altogether and focus on a healthy, tasty entrée. Get in the habit of doing this whenever you eat out and you will eliminate thousands of calories from your diet.
