Cycle Log: Endurance Phase 2014 – Week 2

Week 2 is the second week of the first mesocycle of my Endurance Phase for the 2014 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles). Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of September 30 to October 6, 2013 (click here to download my Endurance Phase training plan).

I had a great week that started with a butt-whipping Hill Climb ride out to Bartlett Lake. Simply stated, some rides the cyclist wins and other rides the course wins. On Monday, the course kicked my butt! It’s a 27 mile ride round-trip that has a total elevation gain of about 2,900 feet. The return leg from Bartlett Lake begins with a 3.5 mile stretch that rises 1,000 feet. I rode this stretch too hard and suffered badly the rest of the way home. However, by Thursday’s Steady Spinning ride I could tell I had gotten a lot stronger! I had a good Cadence Intervals workout on Saturday with 3 x 6:00 Zone 3 efforts at 95-100 rpm with 4 minutes of recovery. I have a big week coming up. I have my first field test in months on Monday and the Tour de Scottsdale on Sunday. As always, I’ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week!
