Cycle Log: Endurance Phase 2014 – Week 1

Week 1 is the first week of the first mesocycle of my Endurance Phase for the 2014 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles). Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of September 23-29, 2013 (click here to download my Endurance Phase training plan).

Week of 9/23/13 Mon Tues Wed Th Fri Sat Sun Total
Goal 1.75 SS 0.5 AR OFF 1.75 TPO or HC OFF 1.0 CI OFF 5.0
Actual 1.75 SS 0.5 AR OFF 1.75 HC OFF 1.0 CI OFF 5.0

I’m off to a great start! It felt great getting back to harder training. I can tell I lost my peak fitness (which is fine) as my lungs were burning at the beginning of my Steady Spinning and Hill Climb rides, and I struggled a bit to find my legs. But in both cases, I got stronger as the ride progressed and had two great workouts.  For the Hill Climb ride, I did 3 ascents of a 3.3 mile climb that rises about 430 feet. I had a very good Cadence Intervals workout on Saturday as well. I did 3 x 5:00 Zone 3 intervals at 95-100 rpm with 5 minutes recovery between the hard efforts. I have another fairly hard week coming up including a major climbing workout at Bartlett Lake. As always, I’ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week!
