Cycle Log: Competition Phase II – Week 9

Week 9 is the third week of the third mesocycle of my Competition Phase II for the 2013 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles), which means it’s a recovery week. Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of August 26 to September 1, 2013 (click here to download my plan for Competition Phase II).

Week of 8/26/13 Mon Tues Wed Th Fri Sat Sun Total
Goal 1.5 TT or HI 1.5 CI OFF 1.0 AR OFF 1.0 AR OFF 5.0
Actual OFF 1.0 AR OFF 1.0 AR OFF 2.5 HC OFF 4.5

I had a great last week of training before the Arizona State TTT and Tandem TT Championships even though most of it was simple recovery. I was very tired at the beginning of the week from my recent hard training but felt much stronger by Saturday. I had a great Hill Climb workout up 9-Mile Road in Rio Verde, Arizona. I rode 38 miles with more than 2,000 feet of climbing. I set a personal best for a solo ascent at 39:33, which is almost 3 minutes faster than my time last month. The big race is this week. As always, I’ll let you know how it goes. Have a great week!
