Cycle Log: Competition Phase II – Week 7

Week 7 is the first week of the third mesocycle of my Competition Phase II for the 2013 racing season (click here for a detailed description of macrocycles, mesocycles and microcycles). Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of August 12-18, 2013 (click here to download my plan for Competition Phase II).

I had a great week that included my first race in over 5 months. The week began with a very good Hill Climb ride over a 43-mile course with more than 1,800 feet of climbing in 99° temps. I had another great Pyramid Intervals workout on Thursday that consisted of 4 x 7:00 Zone 4 efforts with 3 minutes of recovery. The best part of the week took place on Sunday when I participated in the 30 km 3 Bears Time Trial on a tandem bike. We completed the hilly course in 50:01, which wasn’t too bad considering we have not ridden the tandem together in months.  I have another week of hard riding coming up.
