Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #69 – Trade Whole Cheese for Low-Fat Cheese

In my last weight loss post, I introduced the notion of using food swaps to lose weight and keep it off permanently.  In that post, I gave the example of swapping whole milk for low-fat milk as a way of reducing intake by 36,500 calories per year.  There is another simple swap you can make when it comes to dairy products.  You can trade whole cheese for low-fat cheese.  For example, a slice of whole American cheese has 70 calories with 5 grams of fat (3 grams saturated).  A slice of American low-fat cheese (2%) has 45 calories with 2.5 grams of fat (1.5 grams saturated).  If you have a daily intake of two slices of cheese, that’s a savings of 50 calories and 5 grams of fat (3 grams saturated) each day.  That may not sound like much, but it amounts to 18,250 calories per year or a little more than 5 lbs.  And you accomplish this by simply trading whole American cheese for low-fat cheese.  Now, in the interest of full disclosure, you can make even healthier choices when it comes to cheese but I’ll discuss that in a future post.
