Cycle Log: Competition Phase Week 8

Week 8 is the second week of the third mesocycle of my 2012 Competition Phase (click here for a detailed description of macrocyles, mesocycles and microcycles).  Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of June 4 to 10, 2012 (click here to download my plan for the Competition Phase).

What an awesome week!  I started with a great Tempo ride on the indoor trainer.  I followed that up with a strong Single Leg Training/Sprint Intervals: Short workout.  I did 6 x 15 second seated sprints at more than 30 mph each.  However, my best day was Sunday’s Arizona City Cotton Classic.  My buddy and I completed the 40K course on a tandem in 1:01:08.  It was our fastest 40K time ever!  What’s remarkable is that neither of us is at peak fitness.  That should come in about 90 days, just in time for the state championships.  We have a legitimate shot at a sub 1-hour 40K.  I have a recovery week coming up that includes a fitness test.  As always, I’ll let you know how it goes.  Have a great week!
