Cycle Log: Competition Phase Week 3

Week 3 is the third week of the first mesocycle of my 2012 Competition Phase (click here for a detailed description of macrocyles, mesocycles and microcycles).  Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of April 30 to May 6, 2012 (click here to download my plan for the Competition Phase).

Week of 4/30/12 Mon Tues Wed Th Fri Sat Sun Total
Goal 1.5 FT 1.0 AR OFF 1.0 AR OFF 0.5 WU ML TT 6.0
Actual 2.0 FT 0.75 AR OFF 1.0 AR OFF 0.5 WU ML TT 6.25

Theoretically, this was a recovery week but it began with a long, hilly field test and ended with a race up Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, AZ.  I had a good ride on Monday but cracked a bit during my field test because I rode hilly terrain for over an hour before I started and the test was up a steep, 9-mile long hill.  However, I still had a great workout.  I recovered during the middle of the week and raced in the Mt Lemmon Time Trial on a tandem.  We covered the 9.9 mile route with about 3,000 feet of climbing in 58:40.  The results are not official yet but I think we won the tandem category!  I have another big hill climb race this Saturday at the South Mountain Time Trial in Phoenix, AZ.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  Have a great week!
