Cycle Log: Competition Phase Week 1

Week 1 is the first week of the first mesocycle of my 2012 Competition Phase (click here for a detailed description of macrocyles, mesocycles and microcycles).  Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of April 16-22, 2012 (click here to download my plan for the Competition Phase).

I had a very interesting week.  I am still dealing with significant leg fatigue even though I am coming off of a recovery week.  I noticed it during Monday’s Hill Climb workout at South Mountain in Phoenix.  My legs had no snap and tired pretty quickly. However, I rode my TT bike up the mountain for the first time and broke my PB by 21 seconds.  I can’t wait to see what I can do when I ride with strong legs!  My legs were better (but not 100%) during Thursday’s Time Trial Intervals workout. I did 4 x 6:00 hard efforts with 4 minutes recovery.  The first three were very strong but I cracked during the fourth.  Again, it was muscle fatigue.  After an Active Recovery ride on Friday, I decided to take the weekend off to rest.  Hopefully, I’ll get my legs back!  I have another hard week coming up.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  Have a great week!
