10 Quick Tips for a Healthy 2012 – #8: Eat a Good Breakfast

This is arguably the most important tip of all.  Far too many people make the mistake of skipping breakfast as a way of reducing caloric intake.  While this is understandable (e.g., you may be pressed for time, you might not be that hungry), you should know that eating a healthy breakfast is one of the few behaviors that most healthy weight people have in common.  There is a good reason for this.  Eating a healthy breakfast within two hours of waking each morning will boost your metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories while at rest) while reducing hunger. Studies have consistently shown that people who skip breakfast are far more likely to overeat later in the day. And remember, breakfast doesn’t have to consist of traditional cuisine such as cereal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles etc. (although I love pancakes). You can eat “non-breakfast” food such as pasta, chicken, vegetables, fruit and fish.
