Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #59 – Take a Zumba Class

For my last weight loss tip, I suggested dancing as a way to burn calories, improve endurance, make friends and have lots of fun.  Zumba is a specific type of dance class that offers all of these benefits.  Developed in the 1990’s by Alberto “Beta” Perez, Zumba is a Latin-dance inspired fitness program that incorporates salsa, samba, merengue, hip-hop, mambo, martial arts and other dance styles.  There are a variety of Zumba classes including Zumba Fitness, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning and Aqua Zumba (yes, you will be dancing in the water).  These classes are typically offered at fitness centers, gyms, community centers and dance studios.  You can even find classes at some colleges, K-12 schools and churches.  According to Zumba.com, there are more than 110,000 locations with Zumba classes in over 125 countries.  So you shouldn’t have any problems finding a class.  They also state that more than 12 million people take Zumba classes on a regular basis so you’ll have lots of company!
