Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #44 – Do Some Strength Training

Strength training offers a number of benefits including increased bone strength, decreased bone loss, decreased muscle loss, increased tendon and ligament strength, and increased metabolic rate (i.e., fat burning).  The good news is that two, 30-minute resistance sessions a week is all you will ever need to reap these benefits.  If you are unsure of what to do, consider hiring a personal trainer to help you develop a 30-minute fitness routine that includes resistance exercise (e.g., weightlifting).  Alternatively, you can purchase one of the many books on fitness and strength training but be careful.  A book will offer exercise routines and describe the exercises, but a book cannot demonstrate how to do an exercise and give you feedback on your performance.  And remember, any resistance exercise like push-ups and sit-ups will work well.  You do not need a lot of fancy equipment.
