Cycle Log: Intensity Phase Week 6

Week 6 is the third week of the second mesocycle of my Intensity Phase (click here for a detailed description of macrocyles, mesocycles and microcycles).  Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of February 21-27, 2011 (click here to download my plan for the Intensity Phase).

This was a recovery week but included a high-intensity field test on Monday and my third race of the season on Sunday.  I had a great week.  I did my field test indoors because of cold temperatures and set a personal best during the 30-minute effort at time trial pace.  I recovered over the next 5 days with two Active Recovery sessions and a brief Steady Spinning: Indoors ride to prep my legs for Sunday’s race (the Vulture Mine Time Trial in Wickenburg, AZ), which was great.  I came in 2nd place in Cat 5, which is my best finish since I moved to Arizona.  My time was pretty slow for a 20K TT (37:22 – the actual distance was about 13.1 miles), but that was due to the cold temps (mid 40’s) and the huge hills.  May have been the hilliest, non-hill climb time trial I have ever done (close to 500 feet of climbing).  But I was very pleased with the results!  I have another race this week.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  Have a great week!
