Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #12 – Purchase “Bad” Foods One at a Time

First, I want to emphasize that there really are no “bad” foods.  There are ridiculous portion sizes and to be sure, there are some concoctions that have far too much saturated fat, trans-fat, sodium, sugar and/or calories.  However, most of the foods we think of as “bad” can be consumed in moderation, with the key word being MODERATION!  For many of us, this is easier said than done, but I have a suggestion.   Instead of purchasing your indulgent treats by the box or the bag and then bringing them home to consume later, buy them one at a time.  In other words, don’t keep any “bad” foods in your home.  When you desire a treat, go out and get it.  This is known as environmental management and can be a very effective way to modify your eating habits.  For example, if you like ice cream, don’t buy a gallon from the store, visit your local ice cream shop and purchase a single cone of your favorite flavor.  If you crave apple pie, don’t get a whole pie, buy it one slice at a time.  If you love doughnuts, don’t buy them by the dozen, purchase them one at a time.  That way, you will only eat one and you won’t be tempted by the other 11 sitting in the box and calling your name!  By managing your dietary environment in this way, you can significantly reduce your caloric intake.
