Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #7 – Eat 4 to 6 Meals a Day

This may sound like an oxymoron, but eating more frequently will help you lose weight more effectively.  That’s because our bodies work hard to digest and absorb the foods we eat (known as the thermic effect of food).  This, in turn, boosts the metabolism and allows us to burn more calories.  The added benefit is that when you eat more often, you are less likely to have bouts of hunger during the day.  This is important because you are far more likely to overeat when you are ravenous.  In fact, if you want to lose weight and keep it off permanently (or simply avoid gaining weight), you should work to avoid circumstances that can lead to extreme hunger. One way to do this is to always have healthy snacks available in case you are stuck in a situation where food is scarce (e.g., traffic, meetings that run longer than expected). Another way is to plan your meals so you eat more frequently throughout the day.  Of course, when you eat more meals, make sure your portions are a little smaller than normal.  As a general rule of thumb, try not to eat more than 500 calories at a single meal.
