Lose Weight WITHOUT Dieting: Tip #6 – Eat Breakfast Every Day

I’ve talked about this before (see The 10 Biggest Weight Loss Mistakes #6: Skipping Breakfast).  One of the most common mistakes people make when it comes to weight loss is the elimination of the first meal of the day.  While this may be understandable (e.g., you might be pressed for time; you might not be that hungry), you should know that eating breakfast is one of the few behaviors that most healthy weight people have in common (for more information on healthy weight loss behaviors, visit the National Weight Control Registry at  There is a good reason for this.  Eating a healthy breakfast within two hours of waking each morning will boost your metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories while at rest) and reduce your hunger.  Studies have consistently shown that people who skip breakfast are far more likely to overeat later in the day.  And remember, breakfast doesn’t have to consist of traditional cuisine such as cereal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles etc. (although I love pancakes).  You can eat “non-breakfast” food such as pasta, chicken, vegetables, fruit and fish.  I recommend you select breakfast fare that consists of low glycemic index carbohydrates, along with some protein and a little fat to ensure a light, healthy meal that sates your hunger until lunchtime (click here to download a Glycemic Index).
