Cycling Performance Tip #12: Eat Breakfast Every Day

Try to eat a healthy breakfast within two hours of waking each morning.  This will help boost your energy levels and reduce hunger.  You should also drink some fluids since we generally wake up a bit dehydrated in the mornings.  Studies have shown that eating breakfast on a daily basis is one behavior that most healthy weight people have in common (for more information on successful weight loss behaviors, visit the National Weight Control Registry at www.nwcr.ws).  This is a particularly important step for cyclists that are struggling to shed a few extra pounds.  Just make sure breakfast fare consists primarily of low glycemic index carbohydrates, along with some protein and fat unless this is the pre-workout meal in which case high glycemic index carbs are fine (click here to download your Glycemic Index).
