Cycle Log: Intensity Phase Week 7

Week 7 is first week of the third mesocycle of my Intensity Phase (click here for a detailed description of macrocyles, mesocycles and microcycles).  Unfortunately, it was also a week that I caught a cold.  It wasn’t too bad but it was significant enough that I took the weekend off to get some rest.  Here are the actual workouts with the plan for the week of March 8 to 15, 2010 (click here to download my plan for the Intensity Phase).

Monday through Thursday was very good.   My Time Trial workout may have been my best indoor interval workout ever!  I was very strong, much stronger than a month ago and performed 3 x 8:00 TT in Zone 4.  I recovered for 5 minutes between hard efforts.  Thursday’s Hill Climb was also a very strong workout outdoors on my TT bike.  I worked very hard during that session, which may have pushed me over the edge because I didn’t feel very good later in the day as my head cold took full effect. I didn’t feel very good on Friday either during my Active Recovery ride so I took a couple of days off.  I’m feeling better now so hopefully I will be stronger next week when I have my first race of the season.  I’ll let you know how it goes!
