Another good way to burn calories, improve your endurance, make friends and have fun is through an aerobics class. Typically, aerobics classes consist of a series of rhythmic movements performed to music and led by an instructor. There are both high-impact and low-impact classes. High-impact aerobics involves movements where both feet are off the ground (e.g., jumping) and causes greater stress on the feet and joints. With low-impact, one foot is always on the ground and there is less stress on the body. Because of this, there is usually less chance of injury with low-impact aerobics. You can sign up for a class at many fitness centers, spas and community organizations such as a YMCA. They will typically offer a diverse array of classes that target different aspects of your physiology (e.g., lower body, core, major muscle groups). Just make sure you join the appropriate class based on your experience and current level of fitness. Classes are typically offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
